Astronomite is a variatiion of Zebra Stone ( famous for its unique rythmical banded patterns) Astronomite is one of the family of indurated siltstones which only occur in Ranford formation in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia.
Astronomite is the rarest of these variations. Heat and pressure acting on elements within the original matrix resulted in striking yellow / orange orbs set in dark background.
Most of the Ranford Geological formation lies under the waters of Lake Argyle. Small deposits of Astronomite exist bordering the lake and on islands,
